Chapter 7 The Flower Selling Scandal
Chapter 7 The Flower Selling Scandal
Duck Jiji stretched out its wings and slapped the heads of four seemingly timid grass tufts, quacking loudly.
The four succulents were so frightened that they simultaneously closed their eyes and frantically began photosynthesis.
The magic of photosynthesis and sunlight combined to create the perfect environment for the sunflower to grow. Soon, a sunflower sprouted in the center of the four beautiful grasses.
Lin Feng's eyes widened, his lips twitching. "Wait? What version now has this kind of bugging?!"
Duck Gigi proudly patted its chest and moved closer to Lin Feng's feet, as if to say, "I'm awesome, right?"
Lin Feng quickly recovered from his shock. If the sunflower was worth 3000 each like in the game, these four timid Qili Grass might actually help him get through the financially difficult early stages of his school years!
Moreover, sunflowers, being an alchemical material, might be used to exchange for the recipe for Gooru Balls from alchemists!
Duck Gigi really helped a lot!
Lin Feng straightened up and instructed Ya Jiji, "Scare them every now and then and see how long it takes for them to produce a sunflower."
Duck Jiji immediately stood at attention, saluting with its short wings, "Quack quack quack (I guarantee I'll complete the mission)."
Lin Feng wasn't a heartless person, and besides, these Qili Grasses had truly encountered an unexpected disaster. He decided to exchange the sunflowers that Yajiji had brought for cocoa fruits as a reward for the Qili Grasses.
Thinking of those burly men in the game who would capture a whole backpack full of Pokémon just for a single rare color and then release them, he sighed, "I guess I'm still too kind."
The vendors who buy and sell materials for alchemy in the wild are located on East Street, very close to the center.
Lin Feng was actually a little confused as to why Bo Jing, who clearly needed these alchemical materials, would not buy them, but would only purchase them when he needed to stock up.
At the acquisition site, there were three people, one man and two women. In front of each of them were a group of adventurers carrying backpacks. The three of them moved quickly and efficiently, and the group moved forward at a fast pace.
Lin Feng was at the back of the line. Seeing that it would be a long time before it was his turn, he asked the burly man in front of him, "Uncle, when you adventure in the wild, aren't you afraid of encountering high-level Pokémon?"
The burly man in front was getting impatient, but seeing that it was a child behind him, he became a little more patient and replied, "Little brother, you're lucky you met me. Anyone else would be lucky not to yell at you. First of all, I'm only 19 years old. Don't call me 'uncle,' call me 'big brother'!"
He paused for a moment, recalling some of his adventures, and replied, "Although my Bouncing Seed is very powerful, it still has to run away when it encounters a Bug-type Pokémon."
Let me tell you, when Bug-type Pokémon attack my Bouncing Seed, the damage is significantly higher! If you also have a Grass-type Pokémon, try to stay far away from Bug-type Pokémon you encounter in the wild!
Lin Feng was somewhat amused and exasperated. Wasn't it common sense that insects countered grass? It would be strange if they couldn't deal high damage with such a counter!
However, he didn't show his emotions. He remembered that the departmental restraint chart was actually summarized by senior student Enzo!
Lin Feng didn't believe that no one had noticed these things all these years; it was probably the nobles who deliberately concealed them.
He then asked, "So...brother, what kind of things do you usually sell?"
The burly man took off his backpack and showed Lin Feng the materials inside. He said, "We sell a lot of things! Look, this is what Bouncing Seed and I harvested today: a rock tripe, an umbrella fungus, and an Iberian corpse."
"Iber's corpse? Brother, I remember elves' corpses disappear after they die, right?"
The burly man laughed heartily, "That's true, but the corpse can be preserved simply by having the elves treat it!"
At this point, the big man lowered his voice and said excitedly, "Don't underestimate these elf corpses. Alchemists can extract magical dust from them!"
Oh, by the way, you probably don't know what magic dust is, right? This stuff can boost an elf's strength! It's just too expensive.
A hint of pain appeared on the burly man's face. Lin Feng also suddenly realized why he hadn't obtained any magic dust after killing those elves; it turned out he needed to extract it himself.
Lin Feng pretended to suddenly realize something and continued, "Then, brother, did you use magic dust on your Bouncy Seed?"
The older brother shook his head and said, "I plan to buy a Goo-Goo Ball from Annie's Shop after I sell this one, and then use it to capture a Flatshell. Maybe I'll find even more treasures when I go on my adventures!"
Lin Feng wanted to remind them that Fire type is the type that counters Bug type, but the merchant's voice interrupted their conversation.
"Hurry up, are you going to sell it or not? If not, move aside and don't block the other people's way."
"Here he comes, young man, let's talk later!"
Lin Feng crept up behind the big man and secretly eavesdropped on their conversation.
The vendor placed the less-than-ideal-looking rock tripe into the third basket and said, "Your goods aren't of very good quality. I can only offer second-rate materials for both. Is that alright?"
The big man clearly had a sense of self-awareness and nodded.
The vendor tossed the remaining Iberian corpse into his basket and said, "Stone fungus 1000, umbrella fungus 800, Iberian corpse 3300, total 5100 Locke coins. Can you check if there are any problems?"
Of course, that was just a polite remark. The big man had sold materials so many times without ever seeing the merchants overpay, so he didn't linger and waste everyone else's time. He walked happily towards the center of the shopping street, muttering to himself...
"Finally, I've collected them all! Here comes the second Pokémon!"
"Next."
The vendor put his basket behind him and said.
Lin Feng quickly handed over the three sunflowers. The vendor's eyes lit up immediately. He snatched the flowers from Lin Feng's hand, examined them carefully, and then spoke to Lin Feng:
"Little friend, are you here to sell alchemy materials for your parents? Your sunflowers are of very good quality, I can offer 2400 per plant. You can ask around, I don't think anyone in the entire shopping street is offering a higher price than me."
Lin Feng didn't hesitate much. He couldn't tell from the vendor's expression that he was faking it. After all, not everyone is as generous as Uncle Sam. The price of 2400 was already very fair, not to mention the transportation costs, the cost of hiring workers to sort the goods, and the cost of storing and processing the materials.
He agreed, took the Locke Coins from the vendor, and asked, "If I could provide some more Sunflowers of this quality, could I learn how to make Gooru Balls from the alchemist behind you?"
The vendor thought to himself: Can this kind of technique be taught so easily? What's the difference between that and handing over one's manhood?
He initially wanted to retort, but then he remembered that this child could provide a batch of high-quality sunflowers, so his family might not be so ordinary. He asked, "Little friend, what does your family do?"
Lin Feng immediately noticed the vendor's sudden cessation of anger. Goodness, is he really that realistic?
He raised an eyebrow, intending to use his status as a new student at the magic academy to intimidate others, and said, "I am a new student about to enroll at the magic academy!"
Suddenly, the surroundings became noisy, and the adventurers all looked amazed, whispering among themselves.
"I heard that all the new students who can enter the magic academy are extremely talented little Locke."
"That's not all! I've heard that most graduates of the magic academy can find good jobs in the royal city, the worst being knights as guards!"
The merchant's expression changed drastically. The daughter of the president of the merchant guild behind him was a student at the magic academy, so he knew better than anyone the value of being a freshman at the magic academy. If he could get into the Ministry of Magic, he would truly become a big shot!
His face instantly lit up with a fawning smile as he said, "Oh, it's just learning how to make Gulu Balls, what's so difficult about that? Just come over when you're free the day after tomorrow—no, tomorrow!"
The vendor thought to himself, "Making Gulu Balls? Magic academies teach that. I'll have to learn it sooner or later anyway. Teaching him won't hurt my livelihood, and I can even do him a favor!"
