Chapter 32 Buying Sheep
Chapter 32 Buying Sheep
"Sarah, these sheep are filthy..."
Sarah ignored Eric and walked over to a sheep, leaning on her cane.
"Luo Xu, help me up."
Luo Xu reached out and pulled her along, supporting her steadily.
Sarah turned the sheep's ear over, revealing a small, faint red patch. She then parted the thick wool around the neck of another lamb, revealing a small patch of scabbed old ringworm hidden in the folds.
Sarah pointed out the problems to Luo Xu, explaining where the sheep were prone to issues as she looked for them.
Luo Xu listened attentively, memorizing everything, completely unaware that Eric beside him had clenched his fist.
Seeing the two's intimate actions, Eric's eager smile froze on his face.
Sarah had helped out at the sheepfold for a while, and she treated him quite well then.
Eric felt that she had feelings for him, so he pursued her relentlessly. Although Sarah politely rejected him each time, he didn't give up.
If he catches up with Sara, he can become related to Lord Galon through marriage, and his life will be turned around...
"This is the good sheep you were talking about?" Sarah straightened up, looking at Eric with a grim expression. Her tone was cold, making Luo Xu feel like a stranger.
"These usually sell for around this price—"
"Change them all!" Sarah snorted, interrupting him directly. "I'll choose myself."
There is indeed an unwritten rule in the sheepfold.
When an expert buys sheep, they sell only good sheep; when an amateur buys sheep, they sell the wrong kind.
After all, they'll let you check it before selling it; if you can't tell the difference, you can only blame yourself for being careless.
These lowest-grade sheep, barely enough to fool a layman, were actually sold by Eric to her Rosé.
Eric's face turned bright red, and he lowered his head, not daring to speak. He turned around awkwardly and herded the lambs back into the pen.
Sarah called over several workers holding pitchforks and asked them to lead the sheep as she requested.
After listening with their heads down, the workers immediately led out five strong sheep.
The sheep's hooves clattered steadily on the muddy ground, their fur gleaming healthily in the morning light.
Sarah pulled Luo Xu forward and checked it again before nodding in satisfaction.
"These five are all good sheep," Sarah's voice softened again.
Luo Xu stared at her blankly, as if he were getting to know her all over again.
In his memory, Sarah was a girl who blushed easily but was also bold.
It turns out she was just hiding her sharp edges in front of him.
Sarah glanced at Luo Xu's expression, then picked up her cane again.
Luo Xu took the five hemp ropes, took out his bundle, and prepared to pay.
Five sheep, each costing 150 dinars, for a total of 750 dinars.
Just as he was about to take out his money, he suddenly paused.
Sarah is clearly an expert when it comes to sheep, so it's best to ask her before paying.
Luo Xu told her the number of dinars he had.
"After deducting the money spent on buying the sheep, is there enough left to feed them?"
Sarah lowered her head and considered for a moment, then nodded: "This money is enough."
Luo Xu nodded, counted out 750 dinars, and paid the money.
The two led the sheep back home.
Five sheep huddled together, their hooves making soft, crunching sounds on the muddy road.
"Sarah, have you ever worked in the sheepfold?" Luo Xu turned to look at her.
“Of course, the sheepfold was my father’s most profitable business. When I was fifteen or sixteen, I would go there every afternoon to help out, doing everything from feeding the sheep to cleaning up the manure,” Sarah said, then suddenly sighed.
"I wish I hadn't gone; it gave me such a tan."
"You're not dark at all." Luo Xu looked at her, his tone gentle. "I like you just the way you are."
The morning light fell on Sarah's face, giving her light tan skin a rosy glow.
"real?"
"Really." Luo Xu's eyes were sincere.
Sarah gave him a sweet smile, and seeing that no one was paying attention, quickly kissed him on the cheek.
"What should we pay attention to when raising sheep?" Luo Xu asked.
"What, you want to learn from me now?" Sarah raised her chin and started talking to herself before Luo Xu could even speak.
"Let's talk about food first. Feeding only hay isn't enough; we need to mix in some oats, legumes, and bran. We also need to feed them salt every day, just a tiny pinch."
"Ewes need to be given concentrated feed before and after mating and before winter, otherwise they won't survive the snowy season."
"The water in the sink needs to be changed every day, and you can't drink water that's been sitting overnight..." Sarah explained in great detail.
The two soon arrived at Luo Xu's sheepfold.
Alina came forward, and a knowing smile appeared on her face as she looked at the two walking together.
"Luo Xu, give me the rope. You take Sarah to my house to rest for a while."
"I'll take her to see the sheepfold first." Luo Xu handed over the rope and then led Sarah toward the sheepfold.
"What do you think of this sheepfold?"
The ground was covered with dry grass, and a food trough and a water trough were placed in the corner.
"Okay." Sarah nodded after reading it.
Uncle Tom came over then, unlatched the gate, and herded the sheep in one by one.
After explaining the precautions to Alina and Uncle Tom, Luo Xu went to his hut.
He pushed open the door of the thatched hut and went inside.
Sarah stood at the doorway, leaning on her cane. Her gaze swept across the empty house before finally settling on the simple straw mat on the floor.
"Why don't you come to my place to sleep tonight?" She pursed her lips slightly.
"I've already ordered a wooden bed, and I plan to stay at a hotel tonight," Luo Xu explained somewhat awkwardly.
"Alright then." Sarah looked away.
Luo Xu neatly placed the weapons on the wooden table, then checked the crossbow strings.
After finishing everything, Luo Xu turned around and planned to take Sarah back.
Sarah was standing at the door waiting for him when she suddenly moved her right shoulder.
Luo Xu then noticed that the soft cloth under her armpit was crumpled into a ball. She tried to pull it out with her fingers, but couldn't straighten it.
Sarah had walked such a long way, from Galon’s house to the sheepfold, and then from the sheepfold to his hut. Her cane must have been rubbing painfully under her armpit all the way, even through the soft cloth.
He walked over and gently pressed her armpit with his finger.
"Does it hurt?"
Sarah's body trembled violently, she shrank back half an inch, and gasped.
"A little..."
Luo Xu gently took the cane from her hand, bent down, and turned his back to her.
"I'll carry you back."
"But everyone will see it."
As she said this, Sarah had already climbed up.
"You can see it."
Luo Xu carried her on his back and walked back along the muddy road.
Sarah pressed her face against Luo Xu's shoulder and back, her arms around his neck.
There were many villagers on the dirt road heading to the wheat fields, and they all cast surprised glances at them.
The two ignored their gazes and silently felt each other's warmth.
Before they knew it, they had arrived at the door of Galon's house.
Luo Xu put Sarah down and handed her her cane. Sarah had just regained her balance with the cane when she suddenly heard Luo Xu say, "Sarah, would you like to be my partner?"
