Chapter 90 General
Chapter 90 General
The Salary Clan's team struggled to hold on against the wolf pack's onslaught.
Xinwu brandished his iron mace, fighting valiantly at the front of the defensive line.
A phantom scroll emerged from behind him—a panorama of a hundred landscapes inherited from his father. The scroll unfurled, but large sections remained blank.
The dire wolves coordinated perfectly, but Xinwu still found an opening in the chaos. He spotted an opening in one of the beasts' attacks and struck it squarely in a vital spot with his weapon. The dire wolf fell heavily to the ground and lay motionless.
As the enemy died, a halo of light shone on the Hundred Scenes Scroll. A lifelike wolf head pattern slowly emerged from the previously blank scroll.
Xinwu, exhausted, leaned against a broken-down cart.
In a daze, looking at the painting, a sudden wave of sadness welled up in his heart.
He and his sister were both children blessed by God, but he seemed to be inferior to her in every way.
The gods did not bestow blessings upon him, he did not possess the extraordinary signs that a divinely granted person should have, and none of the five weapons worshipped by the tribe were willing to acknowledge his qualifications.
In matters of ritual, he also felt that he had never met the expectations of the deceased priest and had failed to satisfy that elder.
Now that we've reached this point, we're facing certain death.
Dying gloriously and meaningfully seems incredibly difficult.
Resentment and frustration intertwined in his heart, and sadness quickly turned into anger.
The intense emotional turmoil drew upon the power within him. In this desperate situation, the dormant fire within Xinwu ignited violently. Dark golden flames burst forth from his body, and scorching waves of heat swept outwards.
The dire wolves that tried to approach were forced back by this sudden burst of power.
The team, who had been struggling in the battle, felt much less pressure and finally got a moment of relief.
Just as the squad had a brief respite, the sound of rapid hoofbeats came from the outer edge of the encirclement.
A towering warhorse forcefully tore through the Dire Wolves' defenses. Xin'an charged single-handedly into the encirclement. The fully armored swordsman wielded the Five Weapons of the Xin Clan—the Spear.
A man and his horse charged through the herd, creating an unstoppable force. Wielding their spears, they carved a clearing in the dense horde. The surrounding dire wolves, intimidated by this ferocious power, hesitated to approach.
Xinwu stared in shock at the approaching warhorses.
He had expected to be met by a large reinforcement from the rear, but he never imagined that the Divine Envoy would venture into this deadly place alone with only Xin'an. The number of dire wolves around them was enormous, and it was far too risky for him to go in alone.
To protect Jane's safety, Xinwu quickly mobilized the power of faith within his body and sent a warning to Jane through the spiritual connection, telling the divine messenger not to approach any further.
As a result, the iron box that Xin An was protecting in front of him floated up.
A beam of light illuminated the sky, and Jane projected Xin Wu's earlier prayer onto the battlefield. A comical voice emanated from the sound-emitting device, perfectly mimicking Xin Wu's tone.
"(ಡωಡ) Great God, your people are being slaughtered. Please unleash divine punishment, using me as the coordinate, and wipe out the evil enemy before us~"
Jane floated up and down in mid-air, not forgetting to continue teasing: "╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ I told you to pray to Lady Jane more often, but you insisted on going to find that big idiot. Now you're dumbfounded!"
Xin Wu, who was prepared to fight to the death, stood frozen in place. The originally tragic atmosphere vanished, leaving only an awkward sense of utter embarrassment.
Even Xin'an, sitting on horseback, turned his head away somewhat awkwardly.
High above the clouds, the card game has long been forgotten.
Su Cheng watched the changes unfolding in the desolate wilderness below.
"Is this your trump card?" Su Cheng asked. "What an amazing familiar, a machine with a strong sense of self, capable of using divine power. But entering the battle alone is a bit too confident."
"That's its own decision, and there are many times when I can't control it," Liang Jiu replied. "Besides, the troops you deploy to the rear can't stop them."
Su Cheng commented noncommittally, "You seem to prefer free-range farming even more than I do."
He turned his gaze to the retreating dire wolves, his face expressionless.
"But you underestimate me. The [Hundred Battles] brings not only power from war, but also the will to fight to the death."
"I can accept any form of injury or death," Su Cheng explained his philosophy. "In natural selection, only the truly strong survive. If a species wants to keep moving forward, it must always be under strong external pressure and constantly undergo survival of the fittest."
Liang Jiu listened quietly and then gave a response.
"That's the kind of thinking only beasts would have."
Our gaze returns to the desolate battlefield.
Jane stopped her antics in mid-air, and a dazzling light screen lit up on the metal box.
"(ง•_•)ง Xin'an, teach them a lesson!"
The light screen transformed into several streams of light, landing on the surrounding Smolder warriors. The previously exhausted squad members felt their strength rapidly recover, and the bleeding from their wounds stopped.
Xin An swept his Five Weapons Spear forward.
A powerful force erupted from the spear. The few dire wolves at the forefront didn't even have time to dodge; they were swept away by the spear and crashed heavily into the rocks behind them.
She squeezed the horse's flanks with her legs, and the warhorse neighed and charged forward.
She possesses almost all of her parents' combat experience, a purer form of superhuman power than Xinwu, and a divine blessing.
Conspiracy cannot harm her in the slightest; her eyes can see through any trickery... unless a god intervenes.
The white moss horse's horsepower compensated for her lack of strength, and her full suit of iron armor increased her imposing presence.
One man and one horse plunged into the encirclement of dire wolves. The sharpness of the five weapons shone through the beasts, each strike carrying an overwhelming force.
Jane hovered nimbly in mid-air, coordinating with Xin'an's charge, constantly releasing small-area blinding light spots to precisely disrupt the vision of the surrounding dire wolves.
With the divine messenger and the five soldiers clearing the way, Xinwu gripped his nail-headed hammer and led his men to follow.
It looked like the prey was about to escape.
The alpha wolf of the wolf pack, which had ambushed the group, finally appeared. A much larger gray shadow leaped out from a blind spot on the side and pounced straight at Xin'an on horseback.
Jane swiftly changed direction mid-air, and a dazzling light burst forth from the iron box. Powerful divine force intercepted the wolf in mid-air, sending it crashing heavily onto the hard ground of the wilderness.
Xin An pulled on the reins, and the warhorse spurred forward. Her Five Weapons Spear slammed down, the tip piercing the alpha wolf's skull.
With their leader dead, the remaining dire wolves showed no fear. Driven by their instincts, they remained ferocious, hissing and continuing to tighten their formation, encircling the group layer by layer.
Jian Piao returned to Xin An, beaming with pride.
"(¯︶¯) See that! With the great Lord Jane here, no wolf can do anything!"
Xin An drew his spear and shook off the blood.
"Who was too scared to come?"
Jane's movements froze in mid-air, and a muffled electrical sound came from the sound-emitting device.
"(゚▽゚)/ Wow, the scenery here is really nice. Xinwu, are you still able to walk? Let's hurry up and rush out!" It decisively changed the subject.
