Chapter 58 A Night of Chaos
Chapter 58 A Night of Chaos
After hanging up with Batman, Li Wei led several officers through the slum streets toward the factory.
The streets were a mess, with burning vehicles billowing black smoke.
Broken glass and debris were scattered all over the ground, and occasionally a few shrill screams and roars could be heard.
The people affected by the toxins had unfocused eyes; some screamed in terror, while others attacked each other out of fear. The entire slum was like a living hell.
Just then, a black figure rushed towards him.
Catwoman looked anxious, and her black leather jacket was stained with dust and blood, clearly indicating that she had just been in a fight.
"Maroney's men are heading to the abandoned factory." Catwoman ran to Levi's side, speaking rapidly, "They have submachine guns and grenades; you few can't stop them!"
Their objective was likely to rescue the scarecrow, but as for what they planned to do afterward, I'm not sure yet.
Catwoman's words made Levi's heart sink; Maroni had simply gone mad!
If Klein gets away again this time, there's no point in the Gotham Police Department existing.
"Tom!" Levi shouted to the officer beside him, "Take a team and head to the intersection in the west of the city to set up a roadblock immediately."
"Delay Maroni's team as much as possible, don't engage in a direct confrontation, wait for reinforcements!"
"Yes, Mr. Levi!"
Tom immediately led several officers and ran towards the crossroads on the west side of the city.
"I'll keep an eye on their movements for you, although direct combat isn't my forte."
Catwoman looked at Levi, "However, I can use the terrain to slow their progress."
"No, it's too dangerous," Li Wei immediately refused.
Looking at the catwoman, Li Wei felt a mix of emotions.
He knew Catwoman was incredibly skilled, but Maroney's men were all ruthless and vicious.
Moreover, these bastards are armed with heavy weapons, and he really couldn't bear to let Catwoman go on such a risk.
"Now is not the time to talk about danger!" Catwoman said urgently. "If Maroney's men successfully reach Scarecrow, they will create even greater chaos."
More people will die, and Gotham will be in even more chaos!
I won't force myself; I'm just buying you time. Don't worry.
After saying that, Catwoman turned and ran towards the west of the city without waiting for Li Wei's rebuttal.
The black figure flashed across the chaotic street like a nimble raccoon, quickly disappearing into the depths of the alley.
"Be careful!" Li Wei shouted at her back, his concern no longer concealed.
Catwoman paused for a moment, but without turning around, she simply waved her hand and disappeared completely from his sight.
Li Wei took a deep breath, suppressing his worries; now was not the time to be sentimental.
We must end this chaos as soon as possible and restore peace to Gotham.
Even if we receive hundreds of calls a day, it would be much better than the current situation.
"Gordon, Maroni has sent more men. We're short-handed and need reinforcements!"
Li Wei told Gordon about the situation, hoping he could contact reinforcements.
"I've already contacted the mayor, but he doesn't agree to mobilize the security forces!"
Gordon's voice was filled with suppressed anger. "Man, this time we're on our own!"
Gordon's answer plunged Levi's heart into despair, and he faced the darkness of Gotham for the first time.
...
The commercial street in the slums.
Klein, mounted on his horse, periodically sprayed poison gas at the surrounding crowd.
"Feel the fear! Ha~ha~ha~"
Klein burst into hearty laughter as he watched the crowd scatter and flee.
Batman finally caught up with Klein and threw a batarang, knocking the gas canister out of his hand.
"Klein, your game is over!"
"Batman, do you think you can stop me?"
Klein raised his head, looking down at Batman with a mad smile on his lips.
"Fear is eternal, and Gotham is destined to be consumed by fear!"
As he spoke, he picked up a jetpack from his horse and aimed it at Batman.
Press the switch, and a large amount of highly concentrated fear toxin will be sprayed out.
The blue toxic smoke shot out like a beam of light, heading straight towards Batman.
Having learned his lesson the hard way, Batman was prepared. He quickly changed direction and charged towards Klein.
In the blink of an eye, Batman rushed in front of Klein and kicked him in the face.
Klein reacted quickly, throwing away the jetpack and dismounting to dodge the attack.
The two engaged in a fierce fight in the shopping street, and Klein quickly found himself at a disadvantage.
Klein fell to the ground after being kicked in the chest by Batman.
"Accept your punishment, you bastard!"
Batman looked down at Klein, his tone chilling.
This bastard in front of me has made a mess of Gotham, but thankfully it's all coming to an end.
"You stinky bat, do you really think you're so tough?"
Klein struggled to look at Batman, then abruptly pulled out all the gas canisters from his body.
The fear toxin continued to spray, and soon a cloud of poison rose around the two of them.
Seeing that things were not going well, Batman immediately moved away from Klein.
However, because the incident happened so suddenly, he still inhaled a lot of toxins.
"Feel fear, little bat!"
Klein slowly stood up, his tone full of smugness.
In his mind, Batman would immediately run away with his eyes red and his head in his hands, just like last time.
However, to his surprise, Batman only hesitated slightly and did not react as he had imagined.
Batman inhaled the toxic gas and felt somewhat affected, but not as severely as last time.
Seeing Klein's somewhat bewildered expression, Batman realized the reason for this change: the antidote Fox had injected into him before they set off.
Klein realized the situation was turning against him and knew that if the fight continued, he would be caught sooner or later.
He glanced at the abandoned factory not far away and immediately had an idea.
He took off the gas canister he was wearing and threw it at Batman, then turned and ran towards the factory.
Batman immediately gave chase, his bat-cloak slicing through the night sky, leaving a black afterimage.
A few minutes later, Klein and Batman entered the abandoned factory one after the other.
The factory was dark, filled with abandoned machines and debris, and the air was thick with the smell of rust and dust.
Using his familiarity with the terrain, Klein weaves between the machines in an attempt to escape Batman.
Batman, relying on the night vision function of his mask, stayed close behind, occasionally firing batarangs to disrupt Klein's escape route.
Just as the two were dealing with each other inside the factory, Li Wei finally led the police officers to the factory's perimeter.
"Attention everyone, seal off the factory exits."
Levi ordered the officers beside him, "Keep a close watch on what's happening inside. Once Klein is spotted, arrest him immediately!"
The officers knew the situation was urgent and immediately began to take action.
They guarded each of the factory's entrances and exits, forming a tight encirclement.
Li Wei stood outside the factory gate, contacting Batman via communicator.
"Batman, we've sealed off all exits from the factory. Klein has no way to escape!"
"Roger that," came Batman's voice, accompanied by the whooshing sound of wind.
"I'm chasing Klein. He should be almost exhausted. I'll catch him soon."
Just when Li Wei thought victory was in his grasp, Catwoman's urgent voice suddenly came through the walkie-talkie.
"Levy, Maronny's men have broken through the roadblocks Tom set up and are almost at the factory. Tom's men have suffered heavy casualties!"
